On Sunday 29th July, Joe Lane competed in the European Biathle Championships held in Weiden, Germany. The race consisted of a continuous 1600m run, 200m open water swim, 1600m run and was part of a weekend of Biathle and Triathle events attended by teams from all over Europe.

Joe paced the first run well and entered the water in 6th place but after a great swim had moved up to 2nd going into the second run. At the end of a very competitive race Joe managed to finish just outside the medals in 4th place, behind athletes from Russia, GB and Germany. With the top three athletes from each country combining times for the team event the British team finished in 1st place with Joe picking up a gold medal and becoming European team champion
